YOUNG girls in rural Zimbabwe have resorted to using rags as sanitary pads in the face of perennial economic woes obtaining in the country.
In a video recorded by Organize4 Zimbabwe, rural girls in Chisumbabnje confessed to using rags and other inexplicable materials as pads during menstruation.
In some cases, the girls have to dispense themselves from attending school since going to school with a rag under their garments is not that comfortable.
“We have to wash the rags as soon as it’s soaked in blood, i can repeat the cotton cloth up until the end of my period.
“At times when the flow is too much, i don’t go to school as the rags would require constant changing,” said one girl in the Video.
