A Cholera case has been reported in Norton amidst indications that the latest victim has got links to the Chegutu funeral where an 80 year old woman died of Cholera two weeks ago.

According to ministry of health statistics, Cholera has so far killed five people in Chegutu while more than 30 people have been hospitalized. All the victims are reported to have attended the funeral in question and it is feared that the gathering attracted guests from places as far as Harare among other surrounding areas.
Norton Constituency legislator, Hon. Temba P. Mliswa confirmed the developments on his micro-blogging site (Twitter) and affirmed that the message circulating on WhatsApp warning of Cholera in Norton was true and residents should be wary and exercise extreme hygiene.
“A case of cholera has been reported in Norton, the unfortunate victim fell prey to the disease at a funeral in Chegutu and therefore it is imperative that everyone be on high alert.
“Dr. Mhuka has assured me that they are doing everything possible to contain the threat of the disease spreading and my office has stepped in to assist in ensuring that resources are available and have to that end injected an initial donation of $2,000.00 towards the obtaining of essential medicines and drugs to administer to any patients that fall victim to the disease.”
He added that people should not panic but shoult employ strict hygiene standards and adhere to the advice as posted by the NTC Health Department.
“It is a great travesty that the poor service delivery standards act as a catalyst to the spread of communicable diseases but let us in the interim work together with what is available to preserve life and limb. I will keep you posted intermittently of any further developments accordingly.”
