THE National Aids Council (NAC) says preparations for the second edition of the Cancer and HIV prevention cancer Golf Tournament to be held in the Harare from August 15 to 17 2018, were at an advanced stage.
Speaking to healthtimes, NAC spokesperson, Tadiwa Pfupa said all was now in place for the tournament which is now in its second year running following the successful hosting of the inaugural edition which saw armatures and seasoned golfers taking turns on the field.
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards raising funds for Cancer prevention, treatment and care as most cancer survivors fail to cater for the high hospital bills that come with the disease.
The decision to host an integrated Cancer/HIV tournament comes at a time time Zimbabwe is grappling with a Non Communicable Diseases burden which have become a silent but leading killer to people living with HIV
NAC is currently facilitating HIV and cancer public awareness events where they are also offering cancer services. It is reported that thousands of women who attend these events are receiving free cancer screening and linkages to care, but there was still a challenge with screening for men, especially prostate cancer. The challenge is largely related to awareness and change of attitudes as a result of related stigma.
