Cancer has over the years become a major health concern in Zimbabwe,  affecting large numbers of people from all walks of life and currently over 5000 new cancer diagnoses (all types) are made in Zimbabwe annually.

First Mutual spokesperson, Farayi Mangwende said cancer treatment and palliative services currently on the market were unable to meet the existing demand hence the need  for concerted pooling of resources by corporate and individuals to partner and render the needed support to associations such as Cancer Association of Zimbabwe.

“In that regard, First Mutual Health has seen it fit to push the cancer awareness programmes to its members as well as the public through different initiatives, and recently conducted a cervical cancer screening programme in Chitungwiza.

“The business has now gone a step further by inviting all stakeholders in our community to take part in the First Mutual Health Walkathon and raise funds for cancer awareness”, said  Mangwende.

The walkathon will be held on Saturday 18 August 2018 with participants converging at First Mutual Park, 100 Borrowdale Road, Borrowdale from 5.30am for registration and 6.30am starting time.  The First Mutual Health Walkathon is two pronged in that whilst participants are contributing to the cancer awareness campaign, they are also contributing to their fitness and healthy living through the 5km walk.

Activities on the day include a zumbathon, free health checks and free photo booth sessions and a lot more.  In addition, other services which include cancer awareness, counselling, Blood Pressure (BP) and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks and blood sugar tests will also be offered free of charge.  All proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe.  Registration is in progress and for more details participants may contact: Joshua Mutara First Mutual Holdings Limited | 0776 467 055 | jmutara@firstmutual.co.zw, Sharleen Mabisa Shasha Guru Communications | 0777 501 280 | sharleen@shashaguru.co.zw
