THE political violence which rocked Harare last week, leaving six people dead has led to a massive reduction in blood stocks as demand for the product increased as most of the injured victims of the violence were admitted at various hospitals around Harare.

Through their MicroBlogging site, the National Blood Services (NBSZ) appealed to donors to come forward as the situation was slowly evolving into a crisis.
“Following the political disturbances of last week, Bloodbank stock levels were negatively affected. We call upon on all those who are healthy to visit our clinics and donate blood,” said NBSZ.
Demand for blood in Zimbabwe is high at the moment following government move to declare blood free at all public health institutions.
