Over 100 digital thermometers were handed over to the Paediatric Association of Zimbabwe at Harare Central Hospital.
“We had a donation on Friday at Harare Hospital. This was a follow up because last year, from the 21th to the 24th of May we held a Neonatal ICU training at our Draeger Offices in Sandburg. So in attendance there were Government and private hospitals.
“Mainly there was Harare Hospital, Parirenyatwa Hospital, UBH, Mpilo Hospital, Avenues, Baines and Westend Hospital. After the training, our principal Draeger whom we represent decided as a token of appreciation, to donate monitors for attendants,” said PCD Diagnostics Manager Mr Leroy Mugova in an interview.
On the wishlist of nurses who participated at a neonatal training workshop in May last year were the need to have these digital thermometers in their hospitals as they were critical in their work.
“The purpose of this this donation was to cover the plea from the nurses who attended the workshop and said they don’t have digital thermometers which touched Drager as these they are critical in the management of neonates. So Drager decided to donate,” said PCD Diagnostics Managing Director Mr John Maseko.
“So it was a contribution from Drager of collecting and donating those digital thermometers. The other thing was the PT Theatre lights which we donated recently.”
The hospitals’ biomedical engineering staff also received Terumo Japan Medical in conjunction with PCD Diagnostics training for servicing, disembarking and troubleshooting of syringe and infusion pumps.
“We had a training last week at Harare Central Hospital on syringe and infusion pumps which are used in hospitals. So in attendance there were technicians from Harare Hospital, Avenues, also Parirenyatwa, Chitungwiza, West End Clinic, Healthpoint Trauma Centre.
“The purpose of the training was a biomedical engineering training. They were being trained on how to use our Terumo infusion and syringe pumps. They were also being trained how to service them right, disembarking and assembling the pumps. That was the main purpose of the training.
There were about 15 technicians that the received training.
