African Doctors Demand Dr Magombeyi’s Safe Return

DEMANDS for the release of Zimbabwe Hospitals Doctors Association Acting President Dr Peter Magombeyi grow with Coalition of the African National Medical Associations (CANMA) and Kenya Medical Association expressing concern over the abduction.

The doctor was kidnapped last Saturday by three unknown assailants leaving the Zimbabwean government pressured to ensure his safe return.
CANMA in a solidarity message called for African governments to institute appropriate and productive mechanisms for growing, developing, retaining and motivating the human resource for health in their various countries, including the institution of good working conditions, appropriate pay compensation mechanisms, and effective security guarantees.
“CANMA looks forward to the quick and safe release of Dr Peter Magombeyi from the evil claws of his abductors and the unfurling of the faces behind the criminal act.
“While CANMA is not in a position to make a declarative statement on the character and motives of the unscrupulous elements behind this grossly unholy criminal act, CANMA sympathises with the family of Dr Magombeyi, the Zimbabwe Medical Association, the Hospital Doctors Association and all health workers in Zimbabwe, and strongly condemns it in its entirety the senseless abduction of Dr Peter Magombeyi, especially at a time when Dr Peter Magombeyi was leading the determined struggle of his Association for better working conditions of her members in the health sector of Zimbabwe,” the coalition said.

The Kenyans said they want the Human Resources for Health regarded an essential services provider by government to be protected.
