Even though government maintains that the Lockdown is still under level 2, indications on the ground show that citizens have already reverted to their normal lives, a development which could create a fertile ground for local transmissions. According to the ministry of health and child care all the local cases have been isolated.

The country recorded 62 cases of COVID-19 on 18 June 2020 and of these cases, 20 were local transmissions. On June 19, 11 more local cases were recorded. This is however despite the fact that majority of cases over the past weeks have been coming from Quarantine centers harboring returnees from foreign countries.

16 cases tested positive for COVID-19 today. These include returnees from South Africa (5), and 11 local cases who are isolated.

“The local cases are all contacts of known confirmed cases. Today, 213 Rapid screening tests and 302 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number tests done to date is 61 928 (35 811 RDT) and 26 117 PCR,” said the Ministry of Health.

Zimbabwe currently has 479 confirmed cases, 63 recovered and four deaths. The total number of active COVID-19 cases 412.
