In a communication to the institution’s stakeholders, The Avenues Clinic Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Searchmore Chaparadza said the nurse tested positive after taking a Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

Management would like to advise stakeholders of a COVID-19 incident that occurred within the Accident and emergency unit of the Avenues Clinic. One of our nursing staff members tested positive for COVID-19 after taking a PCR test.

“The staff member, whose results were received on 22 July 2020, whilst on self-quarantine, was exposed to the virus after attending to a patient who later tested positive for COVID-19. In the meantime, the hospital has traced all contacts for quarantine and tracing,” said Mr Chaparadza.

He added that the hospital continues to enforce various measures to ensure the safety of all stakeholders. The measures include Mandatory PCR testing for all elective cases, regular testing for staff members, screening of visitors and staff as well as revised visiting hours to minimize hospital traffic.

The facility will also be conducting regular disinfection of the hospital premises at least three times a day as well as proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).

“The hospital continues to urge al stakeholders to stay safe. Measures to keep the hospital decongested for patients and staff remain in place and revisions may be made on a regular basis as necessary.”
