WHO Director Pins Hope On Biden Presidency To Restore Relations With The US

THE World Health Organisation (WHO) Director General, Dr Tedros Ghebreysus believes the United States of America (USA) President-Elect, Joe Biden’s election into office could restore relations between the health organization and the US government which soured in April, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through his official twitter account, Dr Tedros said he was looking forward to working with the newly elected leaders.

Congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. My WHO colleagues and I look forward to working with you and your teams. Crises like the #COVID19 pandemic show the importance of global solidarity in protecting lives and livelihoods. Together,” said Dr Tedros.

In April outgoing US President Donald Trump announced a suspension of US funding to the World Health Organization accusing the organisation of covering up the seriousness of the COVID-19 outbreak in China before it spread around the world.

According to Trump, the WHO prevented transparency over the outbreak and he believed that WHO was biased toward China and colluded to prevent the United States’ main economic rival from having to be open about the unfolding health disaster.
