DRINKING alcohol inside your car is now a criminal offence, according to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), as the nation battles to arrest the rising COVID-19 cases.

The statement released Monday dictates that aside from imbibing in vehicles, guzzling at bottle stores is prohibited.
In this regard, all those found drinking beer at bottle stores, inside vehicles and surrounding areas will be arrested,” said ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi in the statement.
This comes following last Saturday’s pronouncement by Vice President and Health Minister Rtd General Dr Constantine Chiwenga barring public gatherings save for funerals of less than 30 persons.
The new restrictions comes hot on the heels of a proclamation by President Emmerson Mnangagwa relaxing COVID-19 restrictions choking showbiz that musicians would commence performing for a limited number of 50 persons.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police advises the public that the enforcement of the Government’s revised COVID-19 lockdown measures on health and security as announced on 12th June 2021 will be done without fear or favour. The public should take note that Police will ensure all gatherings except funerals are banned and compliance is strictly adhered to.
Mourners are implored to stick to the stipulated figure of 30 people and observe all COVID-19 protocols,” the national police spokesperson said.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi added bottle stores should close by 4pm.
“Patrols, blitz, and monitoring will be done by Police to ensure that beer halls, bars and night clubs remain closed. Bottle store owners should strictly observe the given operational time of 1000hrs to 1600hrs,” he said.
