COVID-19 Hits Mberengwa Boarding Schools

COVID-19 cases have risen in Mberengwa boarding schools to 125 following more tests that have been done in schools.

Previously Chegato 59, Masase40 had recorded 59 and 40 respectively before they had conducted other tests from the neighboring schools.

Dr Gabriel Ndagurwa, Mberengwa District Medical Officer told state media that they were working flat out to make sure that the COVID-19 cases are contained and avoid spreading in the boarding schools that have been identified as hotspots.

We have about 125 cases for far that we have picked from boarding schools. Chegato High School have got the majority of cases so far about 66 as per report we received by end of day yesterday. We also having cases from Munene, Masase and Musume. Musume with the least five cases.

“So far we have worked with ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and we have converted some of the boarding dormitories to isolation facilities. We are isolating the students at school and we are also isolating in the communities after assessment for day scholars we are isolating them at home,” Ndangurwa said.

He added that they are intensifying awareness in the community so as to avoid the surge in more cases.

Meanwhile, there has been a sharp decline in the new COVID-19 cases. According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) daily Situational COVID-19 update the country recorded 266 news cases and 1 death as at 15 September 2021. The vaccination update stand at 2 892 139 for the first dose and 1 963 058.
