President Mnangagwa Announces New COVID-19 Regulations For Zimbabwe

PRESIDENT Emerson Mnangagwa has announced a raft of new measures as means to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections amidst indications of a surge in daily cases over the past few days.

The new development also follows the discovery of a new Coronavirus strain, the Omicron variant which contains numerous mutations sparking fears of it being highly infections even though available data is yet to confirm such.

Measures include:

  1. All returning residents to undergo PCR test and Quarantine at their own expense even with a negative PCR test.
  2. Curfew now 9pm to 6am
  3. All shops open 7am to 7pm
  4. Number and behavior of persons attending gatherings must observe COVID-19 protocols  i.e masking up, social distancing and hand sanitizing
  5. COVID-19 Funeral to be supervised by the ministry of health and child care
  6. No liquor to be consumed at bottle stores which cease to be drinking premises until further notice
  7. Night Clubs and pubs will admit vaccinated clients only
  8. Restaurants to close at 7 pm
  9. All those eligible should get vaccinated

The new measures will be reviewed after 14 days.
