Health Ministry tasked to provide provincial COVID-19 vaccination targets

CABINET has directed the Ministry of Health and Child Care to devise monthly vaccination targets for the country’s 10 provinces as a way of increasing COVID-19 vaccine uptake.

On February 15 2022, 2 868 received the first jab today bringing cumulative for first dose to 4 318 495. The number of people who got their second dose was 2 270 bringing cumulative for second dose to 3 349 207 while 1 594 had their third dose bringing cumulative this dose to 86 364.

Upbeat about the COVID-19 vaccine stock available in Zimbabwe, Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa while addressing this year’s first post Cabinet Media briefing, said they resolved Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs dnd Devolution should submit vaccination campaign strategies and plans that help imcrease Vaccination Uptake. “Provinces should take advantage of the reopening of schools to ramp up vaccinations for those who are 16 years and above,” she said.

The Health Ministry was mandated to produce monthly vaccination targets to raise the figures of vaccinated population.

Cabinet resolved that the Ministry of Health and Child Care come up with vaccination targets per month for each province in order to help ramp up vaccination as well as urgently identify and address any challenges in a timely fashion.

” (Cabinet also resolved) that Treasury will release adequate funds to support vaccine risk communication and community engagement campaigns as well as the updated provincial vaccine strategies and micro plans that aim to ramp up vaccinations,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

The Zimbabwean government intends to vaccinate at least 60 percent of the population to acquire herd immunity against the coronavirus disease.
