Zvishavane Commemorates Day Of The African Child

VARIOUS stakeholders including children from Zvishavane Rural and Runde district recently converged in Zvishavane to commemorate Day of the Africa Child.

The event was held under the theme, “Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children,” and was preceded by a march from Mandava bus terminus to Mandava high school in Zvishavane under police escort and drama majorities.

Womandla Foundation Executive Director, Tadiwanashe Burukai Matutu said it was encouraging to see children from both urban and rural settings honoring and remembering this historical day.

Zvishavne district came together under the guidance of the ministry of sports, arts and recreation and the ministry f primary and secondary education as well as the District Development Coordinator to commemorate the Day of the Africa Child and Womandla came through as a supporting organization in sponsoring some of the gifts and some some of the logistical needs of the commemorations,” she said.

The event was also graced by junior councilors and junior Members of Parliament from both constituencies that is Zvishavane and Runde and they talked about the background of the day and how it came to be.

“The event saw young people reflecting on Soweto uprising and the journey that have walked as Zimbabwe so far with regards to the theme of this year that is Elimination of harmful practices that affect children.”

Womandla Foundation also awarded amazing speeches performances while World Vision came though and gifted children some school bags amongst other gifts.
