Council is set to save up to US$300 000 per month through using an alternative water chemical to be produced at Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Works.

The City signed a deal with Nanotech Solutions which will see the two partners using modern technology to produce water chemicals locally.
Speaking during a Special Council meeting held at Town House recently, acting finance director Mr Godfrey Kusangaya said financing the Nanotech Solutions deal for alternative water chemicals will save the City more than US$300 000 per month.
Once we start producing chemicals we will also be saving on the current chemical challenges we are facing. It is something we are giving a serious thinking. The other issue we must take into account is whether we are going to get the foreign currency,” he said.
Nanotech operations manager Mr Gideon Reyneke said his company is raring to go and is now awaiting an initial payment from Council.
“We are not here to be suppliers but to partner with you in the long term. As soon as we have feedback and know the money is in our bank we can action that. We have prepared everything. We will upgrade the plant with disinfection and manufacturing answers, long term we will start addressing capacity at Morton Jaffray to increase it and look at reticulation to ensure that we are able to address the questions we have,” he said.
