Dr Moyo a revered expert in nephrology, a subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the kidney, had his research singled out as most befitting from amongst thousands of other similar publications from all over the world.
Dr Moyo recently graduated with a Postgraduate diploma in Kidney Transplantation Science and a Master of Science degree in Organ Transplantation which he passed with a distinction from the University of Liverpool UK, one of top British universities. He becomes the first holder of such a Masters degree in Zimbabwe. The training lasted for 5 years.
“I am honored to have been invited to speak at such a prestigious gathering where international researchers of repute present their finding,”said Dr Moyo.“This forum also opens greater opportunities for support, cooperation and collaboration from players and investors in the dialysis and transplantation field.”
During his time as Chief Executive Officer of Chitungwiza Central Hospital, Dr Moyo set up a state-of-the-art Kidney Transplantation unit with support from Mimosa Mines and the International Society of Nephrology and sent surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, pharmacists and scientists for training on the processes of transplantation at Apollo Group of Hospitals in India.
The coming in of Covid19 however waylaid the project.
“In Zimbabwe right now we need to improve access to dialysis while working on setting up kidney transplantation.
“Dialysis patients need an exit to transplantation while transplant recipients need a fallback position to dialysis in case of organ rejection.
“Currently patients are being referred abroad for kidney transplantation at exorbitant foreign currency costs,” he said.
