Zimbabwe is seized with the reduction of drug and substance abuse with youths being heavily affected.

Speaking after meeting, MCAZ public relations officer Mr Davidson Kaiyo said they agreed on continued collaboration between the stakeholders in law enforcement, judiciary and customs.

“As part of our stakeholder engagements , we had a fruitful meeting with members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Criminal Investigations Department Narcotics Division (CID Narcotics), National Prosecution Authority (NPA) and Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) on how best we could work together as stakeholders against the issues of dangerous drugs and other challenges of recycling, remarketing of dangerous drugs. So the idea is to make sure that we get rid of these dangerous drugs from our streets,” he said.

He added that it was important for all stakeholders to follow the dictates of the law on the disposal and destruction of dangerous drugs.

“So there are some procedures stipulated in the law on how best we can destroy dangerous drugs and everything. So as stakeholders we were engaged in these discussions on how best we can implement and follow the dictates of the law on how best we can get rid of these dangerous drugs from our streets,” Mr Kaiyo said.

Mr Kaiyo also said, “One of the key takeaways in the meeting was for us to follow proper procedures in our work as stipulated by the law so that we do not experience challenges for example the remarketing of confiscated dangerous drugs finding their way back into the market. So as stakeholders we should ensure that this doesn’t happen.”
