Organization formed to close maternal and neonatal services access gap

An organization has been established to improve access to maternal and neonatal care for vulnerable women through paying for their maternity registration.

Mother’s Comfort is a registered Private Voluntary Organization based in Harare, whose aim is to improve the quality life of vulnerable women and their children.

The organization’s mandate fulfils its motto, “Nurturing moms to be”. Mother’s comfort also intends to provide newborn babies’ essentials which are required upon delivery.

In an interview with Mother’s Comfort Managing Director Nyasha Jose Chirenje expressed concern over how women are struggling to pay maternity registration fees.

She added that the organization they have goals to help vulnerable women by paying maternity fees,providing baby preparation and counselling for the beneficiary.

As an organization we have a goal to improve access to antenatal care for the vulnerable expectant mothers our major way of doing this is pay maternity registration fees for pregnant women with pregnancies that are over six months and unregistered at a health facility and we pay these at poly clinics and Government hospitals. So far we have helped some women to register at Budiriro and Hatcliffe clinic,” Chirenje said.

“We also provide baby essentials, counselling for the beneficiary. We offer life skills training so as to economically strengthen these women.”

She also said they will officially launch their organization in December.

“This event is to officially launch the organization so that we can raise awareness of our mandate as an organization to our various stakeholders. It is also a way for us to connect and build face to face trust with people who support our cause.

“We desire to fundraise for at least 50 vulnerable pregnant women spread across 12 polyclinics in Harare and since our aim is to improve quality of life of pregnant women our launch shall not go without helping us to achieve our goal,” she said.

Chirenje added, “During the launch which is going to be hosted at China Gardens there is going to be dinner as well as presentations on antenatal care and various fundraising activities.”
