Cholera cases, according to Government are on the decline with 10 districts now cholera free.
This was said during the post cabinet media briefing on Tuesday.
“The Minister of Health and Child Care, Honourable Douglas Mombeshora updated Cabinet on the national cholera outbreak response.
“Cabinet informs the nation that incidences of new suspected cholera cases continue on a downward trend, with ten (10) districts having been declared cholera-free,” said Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere. “The cholera-free districts are Nyanga, Chimanimani, Makoni, Mwenezi, Kwekwe, Gokwe North, Chirumanzu, Matobo, Umzingwani and Binga.”
Government also commended churches for observing safe hygiene guidelines during Easter.
“The Ministry of Health and Child Care continues to monitor all gatherings in order to avert the spread of cholera and other diseases.
“Government wishes to express gratitude to church leaders and communities for their cooperation during the Easter holidays.
“As we gravitate towards a cholera-free situation, Government is urging all communities and religious leaders to uphold and observe good health and hygiene practices,” Minister Muswere said.
Meanwhile, cholera figures show there no confirmed cases but 115 new suspected cases recorded Tuesday.
“As of today (Tuesday), Zimbabwe has recorded 31 507 suspected cholera cases, 3 920 confirmed cases and 30 748 recoveries.
“Cumulative deaths 679 with 87 being culture confirmed and 592 are suspected deaths. The Case fatality Rate is (2.2%),” read the latest cholera Situation report.
