#Breaking: Newly Elected WHO Afro Regional Director Dies

The Speaker of Tanzania’s National Assembly, Dr. Tulia Ackson, has confirmed the passing of Dr. Faustine Ndugulile, a member of Parliament in Tanzania and newly elected World Health Organization African Region Director.

Dr Ndunguile was Member of Parliament for Kigamboni and had been undergoing medical treatment in India. He died on the night of November 27, 2024.

Reacting to the deaths through his X account, WHO Director, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the  Director-General of the World Health Organization said,  “Shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the sudden passing of Dr Faustine Ndugulile, @WHOAFRO Regional Director-elect. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, and the parliament and people of #Tanzania,” said Dr Tedros.

Dr. Ndugulile  was celebrated for his significant contributions to Tanzania’s health sector and his dedication to public service.

The announcement has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the nation, with leaders and citizens reflecting on his legacy of leadership and advocacy. His passing marks a great loss for Tanzania and the wider international community.
