The Cimas Haemodialysis Centre has reported an impressive patient recovery rate of over 90%, reaffirming its commitment to providing high-quality renal care. Specializing in the treatment of kidney-related conditions, the clinic attributes this success to state-of-the-art equipment, highly trained medical professionals, and personalized treatment plans. This milestone underscores Cimas’ dedication to improving healthcare outcomes for individuals battling kidney disease in Zimbabwe.
Speaking during a media tour to commemorate World Kidney Day 2025, Cimas Health Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Vuli Ndlovu, highlighted the growing burden of kidney disease in Zimbabwe and the urgent need for sustainable, high-quality dialysis services.
At Cimas Health Group, we recognize Zimbabwe’s growing burden of kidney disease and the critical need for sustainable, high-quality dialysis services. Our dialysis centre operates with a 24-hour on-call service for emergencies, ensuring that patients receive care when they need it most,” said Mr. Ndlovu.
Zimbabwe records approximately 1,000 cases of kidney failure each year. However, only about 700 patients have access to dialysis treatment, leaving many without the critical care they need.
“The availability of dialysis services is mainly concentrated in urban areas like Harare, making it difficult for patients in rural regions to receive timely treatment. Regular screening is essential if someone is at risk of kidney disease due to diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of kidney problems,” he added.
He also encouraged routine check-ups, emphasizing that early detection and timely treatment could significantly slow the progression of kidney disease and improve long-term health outcomes.
Meanwhile, Sister Mystica Ruzengwe, the Cimas Haemodialysis Centre Clinic Manager, confirmed the facility’s impressive success rate in kidney patient treatment.
“Our clinic has 18 beds, and we currently have about 50 chronic kidney disease patients on haemodialysis. I am happy to say our patient success rate for treatment stands at 91%. There are two key factors at play here: the effectiveness of the dialysis dosage and the willingness of the patient to comply with medical prescriptions. Other critical aspects include maintaining a proper renal diet, appropriate food intake, and addressing the underlying disease that led to kidney failure in the first place,” said Sr. Ruzengwe.
She further explained that kidney failure is often a complication of other conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. She emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of kidney disease.
“Since high blood pressure can cause kidney damage, it is essential to monitor blood pressure regularly and manage it through a balanced diet, physical activity, and medication when necessary.”
The Cimas Haemodialysis Centre provides uninterrupted, high-quality dialysis care, reducing the burden on Parirenyatwa Hospital and offering specialized renal treatment for critically ill and elderly patients. Equipped with Baxter AK98 dialysis machines and automatic LikaMed chairs, the facility ensures top-tier care.
Notably, the centre operates independently of the national electricity grid, powered by a 65kV solar system, an 85kV generator, and a three-phase ZESA supply, guaranteeing continuous treatment despite power shortages. Additionally, a Gambro WRO 103H water purification system and 50,000-litre reservoir tanks ensure a steady supply of purified water, crucial for dialysis procedures.
Committed to sustainability and innovation, Cimas Health Group continues to expand access to specialized nephrology care, reinforcing its mission to provide world-class, technology-driven healthcare solutions and inspire healthier communities.
