Zim Tightens Coronavirus Surveillance and Monitoring

STRICT measures for people coming from Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) breaching self quarantine conditions set for them by Zimbabwe’s health authorities will be put in place, a Cabinet official has said.

This was said during a post cabinet media briefing on Wednesday.
Government will detain and isolate people from affected countries should they breach self-quarantine conditions.
With the number of people coming from China and other affected countries increasing to 4 589, they are under surveillance and monitoring for signs and symptoms of the disease.
“What will be happening to these people lets say a Chinese under self quarantine if they go and roam about we will send our people to isolate them,” he said. “We are very serious about this issue for we want to be in a situatiom where we can contain it. After all, this is what people of Zimbabwe have been calling for.”
Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, the Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister said, “Following reports that some people from affected countries were violating self-quarantine conditions set
by Government, Cabinet approved that the Ministry of Health and Child Care should intensify spot checks and
enforce immediate detention and isolation of anyone who violates the said regulations.”
A suspected case that was admitted to Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital was discharged on 20 February 2020
after testing negative for the virus.
“She is now at home and will continue on the 21 day follow up and
surveillance before her self-quarantine can be lifted,” she said.
Over 80 000 have been infected worldwide -a large number being China while over 2 700 have died since the outbreak whose hotspot was Wuhan City, in Hubei Province of Mainland China.
