Seasoned health journalist and the current senior health reporter at The Herald, Rumbidzai Zinyuke, has been appointed to the National AIDS Council (NAC) board. Zinyuke will represent the media on the board, bringing her expertise to the national fight against HIV and AIDS.
Commenting on her appointment, Zinyuke said, “I am honored to be appointed as a board member representing the media on the National AIDS Council board. The media plays a critical role in the fight against HIV and AIDS, not only in raising awareness about the disease but also in promoting behavioral change and reducing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.”
She added, “I am looking forward to working towards ensuring that the media is empowered to play its part in the national response to HIV and AIDS.”
Zinyuke’s appointment has been widely welcomed, with stakeholders lauding her for her extensive experience and passion for health communication. Her career spans years of impactful reporting and advocacy, positioning her as a vital asset to the NAC board.
Zinyuke’s journey in journalism began as a business reporter at The Herald. Her sharp analytical skills and in-depth reporting quickly earned her recognition, leading to her deployment to Manicaland as The Herald bureau chief. Her tenure in Manicaland solidified her reputation as a journalist with a keen eye for issues affecting communities.
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Zinyuke returned to The Herald’s central newsroom, where she transitioned to health reporting. Her coverage during the pandemic was instrumental in demystifying the virus, educating the public, and countering misinformation.
As a senior member of the Health Communicators Forum in Zimbabwe, Zinyuke has continued to champion the role of communication in advancing health outcomes. Her involvement in the forum underscores her commitment to empowering journalists with the tools and knowledge necessary for effective health reporting.
