THE US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has upped its campaign to create HIV/AIDS awareness and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights services (SRHR) at this year’s edition of the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA).
In an interview with HealthTimes at their First Street stand, PEPFAR Coordinator, Funmi Adesanya said HIFA had provided them with an opportunity to interact with many people from various backgrounds and they had managed to effectively spread the message about testing, adherence to medication among other things.
“We are here supporting HIFA to bring to really showcase and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS programs about access to testing , ensuring that people knows their status.
“We are really exited about this opportunity to know that Zimbabwe is almost near to achieving the epidemic control, where 95% of the people are aware of their status, of that 95% of people are on treatment and 95 percent have their viral load suppressed. So we are really exited about this opportunity,” said Adesanya.
She added that the response to the call to take up testing and Antiretroviral Treatment (ART) has been overwhelming during the HIFA.
