The vehicle and the furniture were handed over to the Minister of Health and Child Care Hon. Dr David P. Parirenyatwa at a small ceremony held at the Ministry.

Hon. Parirenyatwa commended MSF for their support and for capacitating the Mental Health Department.

“As a ministry we appreciate the great support from MSF. Today we appreciate the donation and sundry from MSF to the Mental Health Services Department.

“The Vehicle will go a long way in strengthening Community, the support and supervision of Mental Health Services in the country”, he said.

While MSF’s mental health including Prison psychiatry/HIV/TB and Epworth HIV/TB have been handed over to MOHCC and other partners, the organisation will continue its projects in Beitbridge, Chipinge, Gutu, Harare, Mutare and Mwenezi treating patients living with HIV, non-communicable diseases, survivors of sexual violence and providing emergency response.

“MSF are leaving in three months. They have done so much for in the past seven years, MSF has been so supportive to the mental health department”, said Dr. Parirenyatwa.

The Minister noted that over the years Mental Health has been underrated.

“Mental Health has been ignored, but MSF has helped in refurbishing psychiatric units in the country, now it’s time to go to district levels and clinics to raise mental health awareness and treatment to patients”, said the Minister.
MSF donated a Toyota Land Cruiser and furniture including a metal lockable cabinet, 2 filing cabinets, a wooden cabinet, chairs, heater, laminator, binder, desk and a fan.
