#JUSTIN: One Person Dying Every Hour To COVID-19 In Zimbabwe- Prof Ngwenya

THE coronovirus second wave has hit Zimbabwe hard, amidst indications that the country could officially be losing a life every hour to COVID-19 while the daily infection rate has breached the 1000 mark

Responding to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) daily Sitrep of January 14, 2020 on his Micro-blogging Site, Mpilo Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Professor Solwayo Ngwenya warned the public to be vigilant and abide by the set COVID-19 prevention regulations in order to defeat the virus.

Coronavirus: daily new cases breach 1000, deaths now more 1 person per hour officially! Recovery rates plummeting to 56.3%, positivity rate 29%, 10 000 active cases. The message is: sit down, don’t meet anyone unnecessarily. The virus is about to deal a devastating blow,” said Prof Ngwenya

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) sitrep of  January 13, 2020, the country recorded 1017 new cases within a space of 24 hours while 38 new deaths were recorded within the same period.

“1017 New Cases and 38 Deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. (7 day rolling average* for new cases rises to 921 from 863 yesterday). All 1017 are local cases : 419 from Harare alone (Deaths locations are shown in the table). 3507 PCR tests done today(Positivity today was 29%).

“262 new recoveries reported: National Recovery rate stands at 56.3% and Active cases go up to 10009 today. As of 13 January 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded24256 Cases13658 recoveries and 589Deaths.”

The new trend also comes hot on the heels of a dark week from January 4 to January 10, 2020 which saw the country losing not less than 140 lives to COVID-19.
