About 6 700 cases were recorded by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in connection alcohol, drug and substance abuse last year.

The reports were recorded in the last quarter of 2022 were compiled by the Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (Zimstat) in partnership with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The information contained here is based on data collected from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Crime Report and Disposal System,” said Zimstat director general Mr Taguma Mahonde presenting the 2022 fourth quarter crime statistics report.
Zimstat said 5 240 persons were arrested in cases involving unlawful acts involving alcohol, tobacco or other controlled substances.
“Unlawful acts involving alcohol, tobacco or other controlled substances is the most frequent of the acts involving controlled drugs or other psychoactive substances,” he said.
There were 1 441 cases reported as unlawful acts involving controlled drugs or precursors and 16 other acts of controlled drugs and other psychoactive substances.
“The rate for unlawful acts involving alcohol, tobacco and other controlled substances was 3.6 times that of unlawful acts involving controlled drugs or precursors,” the Zimstat boss said.
Crystal meth is one substance wreaking havoc amongst the youth while illicit alcohols such as musombodhiya is killing those over forty years.
