According to American epidemiologists and physicians, Face Shields are more effective protection against the COVID-19 compared to face masks.  Face shields are generally not used alone, but in conjunction with other protective equipment and are therefore classified as adjunctive personal protective equipment.

In an interview with HealthTimes, Medical Solutions Zimbabwe Director, Mr Shepard Chakanza said their face shields can be worn both medical and nonmedical personal.

Our company Medical Solutions has come up with some solutions in terms of creating job opportunities in this crisis of COVID-19 whereby we have designed reusable Face Shields which are making.

“the face shields are more durable as compared to what is being imported. We have got a product that is reusable, all you need is disinfect it whenever you want to use it. It protects you from bacterial sprays from infected people and can be used by those operating in the hospitals or even the general public,” said Mr Chakanza.

He added that they were manufacturing and supplying the shields to various health services providers in the country as well as corporates.

“We have supplied a couple of corporates as well some government departments. And we are looking into growing this business in terms of supplying almost every health service provider in the country.

“This has also managed to create employment for people who are manufacturing. We are manufacturing what are called safety screens which are best to help those who are having traffic areas in their workstations for example in shops, pharmacies and hospitals.”

He added that their manufacturing department is now operating 24/7 and called on the financial services sector to chip in and assist in funding production to increase volumes.
