The Covid-19 has already infected more than 1 million people globally and claimed close to 100 000 lives. In Zimbabwe, 13 confirmed cases have been recorded including three deaths. No complete recoveries have been reported as yet.

Through his micro-blogging site, Mr Ncube said the health minister had failed the nation and should urgently take a break to pave way for competent individuals.

[pullquote]The Minister of Health & Child Care Obadiah Moyo has been a huge disappoint. He should do the honourable thing and fall on his sword. Zimbabwe has great minds and talent to serve the nation at this urgent momemt of need. #COVID19[/pullquote],” said Mr Ncube.

Before the pandemic hit Zimbabwe, Dr Moyo was on record saying the country had capacity to handle the virus should it come. However, events of the past three weeks have proven that Zimbabwe could be among the least prepared countries in the world.

Zimbabwe yesterday recorded its third Covid-19 death, a situation which been met by growing calls for the health minister’s resignation from across the political divide.

Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (Zadhr) have also called for Dr Moyo to also explain what he meant when he said Zimbabwe was prepared for the Covid-19. They also called for an urgent probe into the death of a 59 year old Bulawayo man.
