In an interview with HealthTimes soon after the handover event, Medical Solutions Director, Shepard Chakanza said the 200 face shields would be distributed evenly between the Harare and Bulawayo City councils health departments to advance the fight against the raging COVID-19 pandemic.
We went to Wilkins after we were told by the City of Harare to go and make a donation for visor face shields by the head of operations Dr Mudariki as well as Dr Chonzi. We met the head Dr Bara at Wilkins where we donated about 200 face shields.
“100 face shields will go to City of Harare and another 100 will go to Bulawayo City. The City of Harare accepted on behalf of City of Bulawayo. These face shields are reusable as compared to what is being supplied from China and other countries. These are strong face shields which are being manufactured locally by Medical solutions,” said Chakanza.
Ever since the COVID-19 was reported in Zimbabwe, medical solutions have created employment for several young people in their manufacturing and distribution channels.
“We also donated goods worth about US$2000.00 and we have also pledged our support for anything that is related to face shields that they want for their operations in this Coronavirus era.”
Meanwhile, a total of 4.44 Million people have been infected by COVID-19 the world over and 302 000 deaths have also been recorded. In Zimbabwe, confirmed cases currently stand at 38, including 4 deaths and 13 recoveries bringing the total number of active cases to 21.
Government has also made it mandatory for individuals to wear face masks in public to avoid infecting or getting infected amidst a growing number of local community transmissions.
