Zimbabwe Measles Deaths Toll Nears 700…Community Deaths Constitute Largest Number of Deaths

A cumulative 698 Deaths have been reported since the onset of the outbreak with more than half of the deaths having been reported in Manicaland province.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) Daily Measles Situation Report (SITREP), 172 New Cases and 13 Deaths were reported yesterday.

“The deaths were reported from Mashonaland West (4), Matabeleland South (4), Midlands (4) and Chitungwiza (1). A cumulative total of 6 206 Cases, 4 440 Recoveries and 698 Deaths have been reported since the onset of the outbreak,” the SITREP reads.

New cases were reported from Manicaland (92), Chitungwiza (36), Mashonaland East (13), Midlands (9), Mashonaland West (8), Matabeleland South (8) and Masvingo (6).

To date, Manicaland Province has recorded 347 deaths, followed by Mashonaland West which has 141 deaths. Mashonaland East has 92 deaths, Midlands 64, Masvingo 44, Matebeleland South 11, Mash Central 2, Chtungwiza 1, Harare 0 and Mat North 0.

Majority of the deaths, 695 were recorded at community level while only 3 were recorded in health institutions. 1585 of the cases that have been recorded are from vaccinated children while 3511 were unvaccinated. 988 were unknown. 2993 were females and 3273 were males.
