In a significant step towards modernizing the country’s healthcare landscape, Zimbabwe is set to host the Leadership in Health Technology Symposium on March 29 in Harare.

The event, supported by the U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe and local partners, will bring together leading healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, and innovators to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) into Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.

The symposium aims to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration, and skill development among medical practitioners and technology experts. Participants can expect an engaging program featuring keynote presentations from top healthcare technology experts, panel discussions with medical professionals, researchers, and policymakers, a fireside chat with a renowned global digital health expert, and a Technology Showcase demonstrating AI, ML, VR, and AR applications in medicine.

Ms. Varaidzo Murapa, Operations Manager at Matamba Film Labs for Women and the symposium’s coordinator, emphasized the importance of digital innovation in healthcare. “The future of healthcare is digital, data-driven, and patient-centered. As an organization, we believe that collaboration is key to unlocking the full potential of health technology. By connecting industry pioneers, policymakers, and healthcare professionals, we hope to spark new ideas, foster partnerships, and accelerate innovation for a healthier Zimbabwe and beyond,” she said.

A key partner in this initiative, Digital Health Zimbabwe (DHZS), is dedicated to advancing digital health technologies in the country. Their mission is to leverage technology to enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient engagement, and boost overall public health outcomes.

The symposium is also backed by the United States, which has been at the forefront of promoting digital health systems, ensuring secure access to Electronic Health Records (EHRs), and enhancing interoperability within healthcare. With over 800,000 medical practitioners, the Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA) plays a critical role in shaping national health policy and branch-level efforts.
