Avenues Clinic Hosts Groundbreaking Healthcare Career Expo to Inspire Young Women

By Staff Reporter

In celebration of Women’s Month under the theme “Accelerate Action,” Medical Investments Limited, through The Avenues Clinic, hosted a first-of-its-kind Healthcare Career Guidance Expo. This landmark event brought together high school girls from Mufakose high 1, Convent Girls High, Queen Elizabeth Girls High, and Harare High School, offering them an unprecedented opportunity to explore career paths in the healthcare sector.

The expo was more than just a career fair, it was an empowering experience designed to show young women the endless possibilities available in healthcare. Through interactive discussions, mentorship, and firsthand exposure to the hospital environment, the event aimed to ignite ambition and break barriers for the next generation of female healthcare leaders.

At the heart of the event were accomplished women in healthcare, who shared their personal journeys—highlighting the resilience, determination, and strategic decision-making that led them to success.

Dr. Musvo Mapfanyangira, an esteemed anaesthetist, President of the Zimbabwe Anaesthetic Association, and Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Medical Association, spoke about her path to success. She detailed the fundamental values of discipline, hard work, and perseverance instilled in her from a young age, emphasizing the importance of intentionality in one’s career choices. Mrs Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu, the General Manager for Limited and seasoned Chartered Accounted, took a different perspective, reflecting on her journey from Bulawayo to Harare, underscoring that one’s environment should never dictate one’s potential. She encouraged the girls to stay focused and believe in their capabilities, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Dr. Takudzwa Chiwanga, a gynecologist and obstetrician based in Harare, shared how she defied stereotypes as a young girl at the University of Zimbabwe whilst studying Medicine back in the years, excelling in a male-dominated field. Her story served as a testament to perseverance and defying expectations. Ratidzo Mutizwa-Njagu, a health economist and founder of Kunashe Foundation, shared how she navigated different phases in her career while maintaining clear goals and strategic planning to achieve success.

These women did not hold back they spoke candidly about the challenges they faced, the setbacks they overcame, and the resilience required to reach the top. Their stories reinforced a powerful message: Your circumstances do not define you your choices, ambition, and commitment do.

Beyond the inspirational talks, the girls had the unique opportunity to step inside The Avenues Clinic to experience a real hospital environment. This hands-on exposure allowed them to see, feel, and understand what it means to work in healthcare, whether in clinical or administrative roles.

This groundbreaking event is just the beginning. The Avenues Clinic and Medical Investments Limited are committed to expanding this initiative across the country with the support of willing partners, ensuring that more young women have access to guidance, mentorship, and opportunities in healthcare.

As we celebrate International Women’s Month, this event serves as a crucial step in shaping the next generation of women leaders in healthcare. By providing mentorship, visibility, and access, we are not only accelerating action we are changing lives.
