21 Malaria Technicians Perish In Tsholotsho Accident

A team of 21 Malaria sprayers and environmental health technicians died while several others were injured in a road accident in Tsholotsho while on duty.

Details of the cause of accident are yet to be ascertained:

Speaking to HealthTimes in an interview, Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) National Malaria Coordinator, Dr Joseph Mberi said he was saddened by the loss and was proceeding to Tsholothso to get the details as to what actually transpired.

“I just also received the news and I am just going there now, so I don’t have any much detail.

“The PMD however is the one  with the actual details at the moment and he is the one who just called me informing of the tragic incident,” said Dr Mberi.

The young men who perished in the accident were part  of teams that were meant to start spraying in Thsolothso after their spraying in Binga, Nkayi and Lupane.

Meanwhile, a source within the Matabeleland North Police said the death toll was officially at 26 and the injured were rushed to Bulawayo hospital.
