President Mnangagwa appoints seven to Health Service Commision

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed seven commissioners to the Health Service Commission (HSC) to oversee its affairs.

Formerly the Health Service Board (HSB), this government entity was renamed to the Health Service Commission in January last year.

Chairing the HSC is Dr Vincent Hungwe who also chairs the Public Service Commission.
Dr Abigail Rugare Kangwende a seasoned medical practitioner with more than four decades worth of experience was made the Vice chairperson.
Former Health secretary Brigadier Gen. (Rtd) Dr. Gerald Gwinji bounces back into the Health and Child Care Ministry, this time as a commissioner in the HSC.
The chairperson of the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) Dr Edward Makondo, a Registered General and Mental Health Nurse brings to the board a wealth of nursing, clinical, teaching and Administrative experience.
Mr Engelebert Mbengwa a health human resources connoisseur is amongst the appointees having steered the HSC ship as the Acting Executive Director since 2021 and then Acting Secretary of the Health Services Commission since its formation in January 2023.
Mrs Josephine Mwakutuya with over 30 years experience in health workforce regulation was appointed as a commisioner in the HSC. She also served as Registrar at Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ).
Mrs. Mercy Sibongile Gwaunza a veteran legal practioner with more than 20 years
experience in Labour Law, Civil Litigation, Commercial law, Arbitration and Conveyancing was appointed as a commissoner. She also served as a member of the then Health Service Board from 2018 to December 2022.
