PSMAS Goes Pink: Medical Aid Society Ramps Up Cancer Awareness with Staff Training, Weekly Pink Fridays and Nationwide Screenings

By Own Correspondent

Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) is throwing its full weight behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, rolling out a nationwide awareness and screening initiative while rallying its own employees behind the cause.

Under the theme “Every Story Is Unique. Every Journey Matters,” the Society is encouraging eligible members aged 40 and above to undergo screening at selected branches across Zimbabwe — bringing preventive healthcare closer to communities in different parts of the country.

But the campaign is not just about members. PSMAS is putting its own house in order first. Every Friday throughout October, employees are encouraged to wear pink in solidarity with cancer patients and as a way of raising awareness. Staff are also wearing pink ribbons every day of the month — a small but visible statement that breast health is everyone’s business.

Behind the symbolism is serious investment in knowledge. All staff members have undergone cancer training offered by external cancer experts, based on the Society’s belief that one must first have knowledge before they can pass it on to others.

In simple terms: PSMAS is making sure its own workers understand cancer — what to look out for, how screening works and why early detection saves lives — so they can share that knowledge with members and their communities.

“Screening and early detection remain our strongest weapons against breast cancer,” a PSMAS spokesperson said. “By equipping our employees with knowledge and encouraging them to show solidarity visibly, we are building a culture of awareness that extends beyond our offices and into the communities we serve.”

The message is clear: breast health is a shared responsibility — and PSMAS is leading by example, from the boardroom to the branch counter.

Screening services are open to all PSMAS members and will run at selected locations on the following dates:

  • Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Masvingo and Gweru: 19–30 October 2026
  • Chinhoyi: 20–22 and 27–29 October 2026

Members are urged to take advantage of the free initiative and make screening a priority — because every story is unique, and every journey matters.
