The Zimbabwe China Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture Centre has treated over 2000 patients using acupuncture since January 2022.

Acupuncture is a system of complementary medicine in which stainless steel needles are inserted in the skin at specific points along what are considered to be lines of energy (meridians or acupoints), used in the treatment of various physical and mental conditions.
At present more than 2000 patients have benefited from the Chinese traditional medicine and acupuncture and moxibustion treatment services since January 2022. Over 6000 acupuncture sessions have been done and more than 500 doses have been given to patients,” says the Centre.
In setting up the centre, several people were trained to perform the treatments.
“To capacitate the operations of the centre, the chinese government launched the Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture training for personnel which is funded by the China National Health Commission and undertaken by Hunan Provincial Hospital of integrated Chinese and Western Medicine,” the Centre also said.
Dr Wei Zhu, Captain of China Medical team and Head of Zimbabwe-Chinese Medicine said they have various specialists manning the centre.
“We have Orthopedics, urologists, doctors for respiratory system and cardiologists,” he said.
A patient who had arthritis got the acupuncture treatment and is now walking well.
“I was told I had acute arthritis on the leg walking with crutches. After a session, I had a sensation under the leg, maybe it was the nerves,” said Chiedza a female client.
A male client can now firmly hold anything with his fingers.
