Dark Week For Zimbabwe, As COVID-19 Kills 5 Within A Few Days

ZIMBABWE has recorded another COVID-19 fatality, this time a 63 year old woman from Matabeleland North Province , bringing the total number of coranavirus deaths recorded this week to five, the highest weekly death toll the country has recorded since the pandemic was recorded in the country.

The cumulative total number of deaths in Zimbabwe currently stands at 13 with majority of the cases having been recorded during the period July 6 to 10, 2020.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) daily COVID-19 sitrep, the 63 year lady COVID-19 status was detected during a post mortem.

Today we regret to report a community death of a 63 year old female from Matabeleland North province, this was detected during a post mortem and awaiting post mortem results to determine the casue of death,” said the report.

The report added that 16 cases tested postive for COVID-19 today and these include returnees from South Africa (7), Botswana (1), and eight local cases who are isolated. 14 recoveries were recorded by Bulawayo province.

“Today, 393 Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) screening tests and 659 PCR tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 87 264.”

To date, the total number of confirmed cases is 942 , recovered 320, active cases 609 and 13 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.
