The Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) has handed over five commuter minibuses to its members to enhance the coordination of its activities across various provinces.
The vehicles were commissioned by the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Sleiman Kwidini.
Speaking to HealthTimes after the event, Hon. Kwidini said, “They were five kombis, but all in all, there must be 10 given to the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZNA) for easier coordination of the Association.”
Enoch Dongo, the ZINA Secretary General, stated, “Through initiatives like this, ZINA continues to empower nurses, amplify their collective voice, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of healthcare systems across Zimbabwe. The vehicles you are seeing here are for nurses so that we can grow and enhance our work as an association as well as support the government of the day.”
He added a pointed message for the government, saying, “We are apolitical, we support government of the day because it is the one that feeds us. However, Deputy Minister go tell the president that our salaries are not enough. We do not want to go on strike.”
Dongo also highlighted the ongoing issue of nurse emigration, noting, “There are more than 4000 nurses who applied for verifications, this is mainly due to poor working conditions. Nurses do not want to leave the country but the situation has pushed them that far.”
