21 Year Old Lady Becomes Zim’s Latest COVID-19 Death

A 21 year old young lady has become the latest COVID-19 casualty in Zimbabwe, bringing the total number of deaths to eight.

The death comes at a time Zimbabwe is experiencing a spike in daily new infections with indications that local and community transmissions could be on the rise owing to the relaxation of restrictions.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) daily COVID-19 update, the country recorded 7 new cases as at July,4 2020.

“These include returnees from South Africa (55), Botswana (3), Mozambique (3), United States of America (2), Australia (1), Zambia (1) and the cases are isolated.

“Two of of the local cases are local contacts of known confirmed cases, investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other six cases. Today we regret to report a facility death of a female aged 21, from Harare Province who tested positive today with no history of travel and had no co-morbidities,” said the update.

Four new recoveries were reported in the Midlands Province and another one in Mashonaland East province. Meanwhile, a total 2247 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) yesterday bringing the cumulative number of tests done to date to 78 465.

The total number of confirmed cases in Zimbabwe now stands 698, recovered 181 and active cases at 509.
