THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has suspended four police officers who were on duty the night Chill Spot Records producer, DJ Fantan hosted a New Year’s Eve bash in Mbare in contravention with the new set COVID-19 rules.

In a statement, ZRP Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi said the four officers acted against the expected ZRP standards by allowing DJ Fantan and crew to have the bash even when government had issued a ban on all gatherings and merrymaking.
The ZRP confirms that Superintendent Innocent Makumbe, Inspector Garikai Jiyane (Officer in Charge, ,Matapi), inspector Peace Nyarai Gunhe (Duty Officer) and Assistant Inspector Vengai Mupamhanga (Duty Member) have been suspended from police duties by the Commissioner General of Police pending disciplinary action
“Investigations conducted have revealed that the senior officer and junior members did not perform their duties according to Police set standards and government’s COVID-19 regulations in handling the illegal Mbare musical bash held by Dj Fantan and his associates on 13st December 2020,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
ZRP has since arrested DJ Fantan Arnold Kamudyariwa and his promoter popularly known as Dhama Tinashe Chanachimwe were on Sunday for participating in a prohibited gathering on New Year’s Eve in Mbare.
