This handing over of the water plant to the council comes following intense advocacy by Matebeleland South MP Honourable Sipho Ndlovu-Mokone for ZINWA to relinquish it to the local authorities of Gwanda.

Hon. Mokone-Ndlovu said she prays there won’t be any new problems related to water issues.

It is quite applauded that Zinwa has official handed the plant to Gwanda Municipality,a move that we have been advocating for.Now that the problem of dual ownership has been put to rest,it is my sincere hope and prayer that we won’t have fresh problems as the mining town,”she said.

Now that Gwanda Municipality has been handed over the water plant, Hon. Mokone-Ndlovu called for clean water for the residents.

” Municipality of Gwanda should thrive to give pple clean water in line with Sustainable Development Goal number 6 outlined by the United Nations.I also encourage Gwanda residents to pay up their bills so that Municipality can deliver clean water,” the Mat South MP said.

Said Gwanda Mayor Councillor Njabulo Siziba, “On behalf of Council, may I take this opportunity to inform you residents of Gwanda, majahunda amahle (my dear Gwanda residents) that we have taken the water treatment plant from Zinwa. The signing ceremony was today at 1430hrs. Congratulations!”

Upon being cut for failure to pay for water by Zinwa, Gwanda had to endure about two weeks without it affecting not only residents but affecting essential services providers as the Gwanda Provincial Hospital.
