Mandatory Rapid Testing For All Employees As Economy Partially Opens

MINISTER of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo, during a media briefing yesterday, announced Government’s plans for a mandatory Covid-19 rapid testing for all employees in order to combat the spread of the viral disease.

In order to test more people, Government has included mission and local authority health institutions to carry out Covid-19 testing.

“Designated Government, mission hospitals and local authority institutions that conduct routine screening and medical examinations for workers will now also conduct COVID rapid testing,” said Dr Moyo.

Dr Moyo said the decentralisation process has also seen some private health facilities being taken on board in order to test as many people as possible.

“Selected private facilities for Rapid COVID-19 Testing have been identified and will soon be announced,” said the Minister.

Apart from people being tested at health institutions, the Ministry of Health will deploy teams which will be mandated with testing workers at their workplaces.

“Outreach teams will be deployed with support from some of our partners, to facilitate testing of employees at their respective workplaces.

“The Ministry of Health and Child Care will expedite testing both at designated facilities and at the respective workplaces,” said Dr Moyo.

The country has to date tested 9 291 people using both the PCR machine and rapid testing of which 34 tests confirmed positive. The Ministry of Health, in a continued effort to  fight the spread of Covid-19, is seized with prevention of COVID-19 morbidity and mortality by ensuring minimised transmission, timely case detection, testing, isolation and management of all cases.
