A First For Zimbabwe As New Medical Aid Scheme That Embraces Modern and Traditional Medicines Is Launched

WELLNESS Medical Aid society, a unique and integrated approach to healthcare service provision has been launched in Zimbabwe in a bid to provide options for healthcare services seekers and the generality of the population.

The product brings together various service providers on board including indigenous health practitioners from traditional medicine practitioners as well as modern medical practitioners under one roof to offer services in their areas of specialty.

In a speech read on his behalf by acting director curative services in the ministry of health and child care Dr Maxwell Hove, Health Minister, Dr Constantino Chiwenga, said the launch of Wellness Medical Aid Society was poised to transform the medical aid and general healthcare delivery system in the country.

This prestigious event marks the birth of a new face in the delivery of healthcare services and improving the lifestyle quality of our people as well as providing more options on medical funders operating in Zimbabwe. The official launch of Wellness Medical Aid Society is poised to transform the medical aid and general healthcare delivery system in the country.

“It should be our pride as a nation to embrace this dynamic health and lifestyle concept which recognises the role of our various healthcare service providers including indigenous health practitioners from the traditional medicine practitioners. This is a unique concept which comes to us as a direct product of local innovation in bringing lasting solutions to the global health threat,” said Dr Chiwenga.

The Wellness Medical Aid Society was registered in terms of the health services Act Chapter 15:13 and according to minister Chiwenga, this product marks a huge landmark in the healthcare services and health services funding landscape in Zimbabwe.

“It is my pleasure as the head of the health portfolio to express my greatest appreciation to members of our community who focus on problem solving rather than playing a blame game.

“Although the economic conditions which are prevailing at the moment present various challenges, the Wellness Medical Aid Society team has found it paramount to brush aside all fear and approach their endeared people with an arm of rescue at the most crucial moment in the history of the country.”

He also called on all stakeholders to work together as a team to complete the integration process and ensure a sustainable future.

Meanwhile, Wellness Medical Aid Chief Executive Officer Mr Kudakwashe Munyogwa said the integration of modern medicines, herbal medicines and traditional medical practice provided an opportunity for players in the healthcare system to work together for the greater good of the people and the country’s healthcare at large.

“The current need of the world is a practical and integrated approach to resolve the problem of disease. Disease reversal is a fundamental value which Wellness Medical Aid Society assures you. This can only be achieved by rebuilding the health foundations using all the scientific and literary information available to us as a people.

“We are therefore pleading with all institutions to trust us with their membership so that we can pool our resources together to fight as a solid unit because our victory is certain. We are inviting employers, individuals and all households to consider this integrated concept of wellness and medical aid as a viable and long lasting solution to their current concerns. Wellness Medical Aid Society is a real game changer joining the medical fraternity and we are ready to partner with all players in the healthcare industry,” said Mr Munyongwa.

He added that members are guaranteed world class service provision and all registered medical practitioners are invited to partner with us.

“We have also invited the Traditional Medical Practitioners to join forces and their contribution is most appreciated by us. This is one of our bold steps in the health funding circles to ensure that all Traditional Medical Council Practitioner members are collaborators and that they should deal with our members openly in the system being also open to scientific contributions and reviews not for them to play as a side show.

“We now extend an open invitation to all Zimbabweans locally and in the diaspora to partner with us in this game changing initiative. This can be through either partnering with us as healthcare service providers or as members or both. We ae available to engage in open minded discussions to effectively eradicate the disease burden from our nation.”
