Insurance Compensation Activated for Bindura-Mt Darwin Highway Accident Victims

By Staff Reporter

The Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (ICZ) has announced the immediate activation of insurance cover to provide compensation and support for the victims of the fatal bus accident that occurred on the Bindura-Mt Darwin Highway on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.

The tragic incident claimed six lives and left several others injured, prompting an outpouring of national grief.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the ICZ, which represents non-life insurers and reinsurers in the country, extended its “profound and heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families and the nation.

The council confirmed that the bus involved was fully compliant with the Road Traffic Act, possessing the required Motor Cover and Public Passenger Liability insurance. This compliance has allowed for the swift processing of claims.

To assist the affected families, the ICZ has already contracted a funeral parlour to provide comprehensive funeral and burial services for the deceased. Medical care for the injured, who are admitted at Mt Darwin, Karanda, and Bindura Hospitals, is also being covered.

Relatives and next of kin of the victims have been advised to contact the ICZ on its Toll-Free Number, 591, to process the insurance compensation benefits as mandated by the Road Traffic Act. The council has assured that its call centre staff will guide families in swiftly accessing the relevant benefits.

The ICZ is also collaborating with the Civil Protection Unit to ensure all necessary assistance is provided to the injured and the families of the deceased.

“The ICZ and its members remain committed to fulfilling their promise of providing support and financial relief to the injured and bereaved through insurance compensation,” the statement concluded, reaffirming the industry’s role in mitigating the impact of the tragedy.
