The Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) has urged global employers to verify the authenticity of Certificates of Good Standing (CGS) issued to nurses from Zimbabwe. This follows a surge in the circulation of fake documents by unscrupulous organizations.
A Certificate of Good Standing is a legal document verifying a nurse’s professional reputation and good behavior within the community. It has become one of the most sought-after documents in Zimbabwe, as it significantly enhances a nurse’s chances of securing employment in the international market.
Mr. Benjamin Maheya, Registrar of the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe, distanced the organization from the fraudulent certificates circulating in the job market.
The Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) has noted with concern the presence of fake Certificates of Good Standing (CGS) and confirmation letters purported to have been issued by the NCZ,” said Maheya.
The NCZ is the sole authority responsible for issuing CGS and confirmation letters to nursing registration bodies and healthcare employers.
“Circulation of these fake documents poses a significant risk to people’s health and safety globally. Therefore, the NCZ is taking this matter seriously and is working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate the origins of these fraudulent certificates,” he added.
Maheya further clarified the official cost of obtaining these documents.
“It is important to note that it costs USD300 to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing or confirmation letter issued by the NCZ. Any individual or organization charging more than the stipulated USD300 is an imposter with the intention to defraud unsuspecting citizens and tarnish the NCZ’s reputation,” he said.
The public has been encouraged to report such cases to law enforcement agencies or NCZ offices.
