Newly elected Rotary Club of Chitungwiza president Solomon Bamusi has pledged to strengthen the club’s community health and humanitarian programmes, with a renewed focus on expanding access to healthcare and mentorship for young people.
Bamusi, who was installed as president on Friday for a one-year term, said he intends to build on the club’s legacy of transforming lives through sustainable health and community development initiatives.
“Fellow Rotarians, the Rotary International theme this year, Create Lasting Impact, challenges us to ensure that everything we do leaves our communities better than we found them.
“My vision for the Rotary Club of Chitungwiza is to continue being recognised as a club that transforms communities through health, hope and humanitarian service.
“To achieve this vision, we shall focus on strengthening our fellowship, growing our membership, building strategic partnerships and implementing sustainable community projects,” he said.
Bamusi said the club will continue supporting several flagship health programmes, including Rotary Family Health Days, the global PolioPlus initiative, wheelchair donations, community medical outreach programmes and the distribution of sunscreen lotions to people living with albinism.
He said the club would also continue supporting a congenital heart disease programme implemented in partnership with the Heartland Foundation of India and sponsored by NOIC Zimbabwe, through which children receive life-saving heart surgery in India.
“Few gifts are greater than giving a child the opportunity to live, and we remain committed to supporting this noble cause,” he said.
Beyond healthcare, Bamusi unveiled a new career guidance and mentorship programme aimed at learners in rural and peri-urban schools, where access to career counselling remains limited.
“Together with our partners, we want to take this programme to schools that are often overlooked because we believe that no learner should be left behind. If we can inspire even one young person to believe in their future, we will have made a meaningful difference,” he said.
Outgoing president Barbra Mupawaenda reflected on a year that saw the club undertake environmental and education initiatives, including tree-planting campaigns and book donation programmes.
“We also managed to do some book donations, which is part of our ongoing projects for the Rotary Club of Chitungwiza. I’m happy with how the year progressed. Obviously, it is my desire to have done better and achieved more, but I am confident that the outstanding work will continue under the capable leadership of Rotarian Solomon Bamusi,” she said.
Mupawaenda pledged her full support to the incoming president, expressing confidence that he would lead the club to even greater achievements.
“I know the club is in safe hands. I know he is set to achieve greater things for the Rotary Club of Chitungwiza. I know the club will return to its glory days under his leadership. This is the end of my term as president, but it is not the end of Rotary,” she said.
