Zim finally commemorates International Congenital Heart Diseases Day

ALL is set for the belated commemorations of the International Congenital Heart Diseases Day with the event set to be held at Mpilo Central Hospital on April 23.

Brave Little Hearts, an organization representing the interests of children with congenital heart diseases has been lobbying to have this day on the national health calendar.

BLH director Ms Tendai Moyo said every year February 14th is observed as International Congenital Heart Defect Day, promoting awareness and providing education about congenital heart defects.  She said it was due to several challenges that they had to postpone.

We encountered so many challenges to get this event into our national health calendar but we are grateful that the Ministry of Health has recognized our efforts and approved the commemorations of this date. We are grateful to them indeed,” she told HealthTimes.

Various stakeholders within the health sector and Bulawayo City are expected to attend this event.

“The event is set to bring awareness and bring stakeholders together for holistic solutions or our nation. We are looking forward to have guests such as the WHO  who have been sponsoring the information and educational materials that we have and also the t-shirts that we are wearing.

“We are also looking forward to having representatives from the ministry of health themselves. We are looking forward to representatives from Rotary Club. We are also looking forward to representatives from the Honorable deputy minister of industry and commerce Honorable Raj Modi .

“We are also looking forward to having stakeholders from our community who have partnered to make this event a success such as Econet, and also Nkulumane Pharmacy, and many others I may not have mentioned,” Ms Moyo said.

A childhood heart disease awareness walk will be done from City Hall Car Park to Mpilo Hospital.
