Egyptian cardiothoracic surgeons are returning to Zimbabwe for the third time to perform open-heart surgeries on 10 children.
The procedures are set to begin next Monday at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where the visiting specialists will work alongside local cardiothoracic teams.

Their return follows the commissioning of a new heart-lung machine at Parirenyatwa, which was recently procured by the Government.

“The third paediatric open heart surgical mission in Zimbabwe will be underway in four days, a powerful reminder of what collaboration can achieve,” the Rotary Club of Harare Central said.

“Through a partnership between the Rotary Club of Harare Central, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Gift of Life International Foundation, and HeartGift, 10 young hearts will receive life-saving surgery this year.”

The surgical mission will run from April 20 to 25.

“Patient selection has already been completed by the expert team at Parirenyatwa, ensuring those most in need are prioritised. From April 20 to 25, 2026, Egyptian cardiac specialists will work side by side with Zimbabwean teams, sharing expertise, building local capacity, and performing these highly delicate procedures,” the Rotary Club of Harare Central said.

Corporate sponsors for the mission include The Avenues Clinic, Cimas Health Group, Datvest, and Nyaradzo Group.

“We also acknowledge the Egyptian Embassy and the Ministry of Health and Child Care for the support,” the organisation said.
Meanwhile, children who underwent similar surgeries in 2024 and 2025 are reported to be doing well.

“…and back to simply being children again. That is the true measure of success,” the Rotary Club of Harare Central added.
